Fresh Look for Hilder Road Classroom

Students at Hilder Road State School in The Gap have one less reminder of the storms which ravaged the school last November.

Member for Ashgrove Kate Jones said a demountable classroom, installed after damage to existing classrooms in the November 2008 storms, has had a $4,000 facelift to help it blend in with the rest of the school.

“The damaged classrooms were repaired after the storms but the school decided to keep the demountable to accommodate an increase in students this year,” Ms Jones said.

“But it was in stark contrast to the overall scheme of the school and a daily reminder of what had been a truly traumatic event.”

Ms Jones appealed to Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten on behalf of Hilder Road’s Parents & Citizens Association for some extra maintenance funding to get the exterior of the building painted.

“This funding is great news for the students, parents and teachers of Hilder Road State School,” Ms Jones said.

“I know from talking to teachers and parents how important this work is to the school community and I’m delighted Minister Schwarten has listened to our concerns.”

The project was funded by Public Works’ Special Building Needs program and managed by QBuild.
